I was born 6/7/43 and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, TX in 1961. I graduated with B.A. in Journalism from University of Texas in 1967.

I've been self-employed since the mid '70s and have been a smokejumper, staff writer for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and a free-lance writer. Dorothy and I started the canoe rental in1969. I office at home, sharing quarters Babe (named after the sheep herding pig) the Australian Shephard and Pirate (he has only one eye), also an Australian Shephard.

I enjoy tennis, racquetball, skiing and martial arts (2nd degree blackbelt in a traditional Korean style). I own golf clubs and pay green fees regularly, but to say that I "play" golf is an insult to a beautiful game.

I have been married to Dorothy since 1965, and we have two daughters, Laura and Cory and three grandchildren, Reagan, Hudson and Paige.

Dorothy is an Assistant Dean and head of the Creative Writing Department at Austin Community College and teaches English and Creative Writing.
